Jaquan “Tipsy” Leggett, 32, of Hartford, was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 20, at the U.S. District Court in Hartford, to 92 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release for selling fentanyl and other narcotics, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut said.
Police began to investigate Leggett in January 2019, when they suspected Leggett and Dante “Tre” Barnes of selling drugs in Hartford. Various drugs were package and stored at Leggett’s home on Lenox Street.
For three months investigators made multiple controlled purchases of fentanyl and cocaine from Barnes in Hartford and Farmington, the Attorney’s Office said.
Leggett and Barnes were arrested on March 5, 2019. On a search of Leggett’s home on that day, police found:
- 169 bags of fentanyl
- 2 grams of unpackaged fentanyl
- 4 grams of crack
- 2 grams of cocaine and
- Items used to package and distribute drugs for street sale.
During a search at Barne’s home in Farmington, police found:
440 bags of fentanyl
23 grams of unpackaged fentanyl
32 grams of crack
Items to package drugs for street sale and
- $24,160 in cash.
Leggett has been detained since being arrested. In October 2019, Leggett pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack, the Attorney’s Office said.
On the same day, Barnes pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. He was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment.
